American singer Kelly Clarkson purchased a gold and turquoise ring owned by Jane Austin for more than £150,000 at an auction last year. I hope she wasn't planning on wearing it in the US because Ed Vaizey, the culture minister, has put a temporary export bar on the ring in an attempt to keep it in Britain.
