I came into this memoir knowing quite a lot about the Dunne family. I’d read the writing of Joan, John and Dominick and I had heard stories about Griffin being a wild boy back in the day. I’d also seen the documentary he made about his aunt Joan (which I liked very much) and I remember hearing about the murder of his younger sister by her boyfriend and reading his father’s account of the trial in Vanity Fair. This story is divided into the time before and after this horrific event.
Griffin tells the unvarnished story of his privileged but deeply troubled Hollywood family in a matter of fact way and drops a lot of tidbits about the stars who inhabited their world. You might like it if you already have some background knowledge of the Dunnes and are interested in learning a little more about what lies beneath the surface of their seemingly picture perfect life.
