The Library Where Readers Were Caged



The Marsh Library in Dublin remains unchanged after three centuries. This perfectly preserved library of the early Enlightenment, with its original oak bookcases, houses more than 25,000 rare and fascinating books. One of the original features is three scholar alcoves with wire doors. These cages would be locked when a reader was using a rare book so they wouldn't steal it.
