Libreria Acqua Alta, Venice’s Flooded Bookstore

Venice experiences periodic flooding, known as acqua alta (high water), during the winter months. These floods don't last long but enter the buildings which sit on canals instead of streets. Libreria Acqua Alta, a bookstore in Venice, keeps books in bathtubs, boats and a gondola flooding is likely. When the canal rises the books stay dry, thanks to their special storage spaces.
