The Lost Art of Sentence Diagramming

Sentence diagrams are now considered to have little educational value but, when I was in elementary school, my favourite subject was grammar and I particularly enjoyed parsing and diagramming. I still remember this rhyme about it (I've inserted my name) :
Marilyn, Marilyn common noun
Parse her up, parse her down
Neuter gender, hopeless case
Object of a monkey's face
This article argues that diagramming impressed on your memory how the different parts of speech operated in sentence construction.
