Anthony Burgess and the Haunted Bathroom

Early in his career British author Anthony Burgess spent several years working as a teacher in British Malaya where he developed an interest in the folklore of the region. He was particularly fascinated by “hantus,” the Malayan word for ghosts, and in 1955 he personally encountered one of these malevolent spirits. Years later, the story appeared in Peter Haining’s The Mammoth Book of True Hauntings.
