Stone Heart Deep

Paul Bassett Davies is an actor, writer, producer, director and Twitter genius. Stone Heart Deep is the second of his novels I have read. Adam Budd’s career as an investigative journalist has left him feeling burned-out and he has just parted ways with his girlfriend. When his estranged mother dies, he inherits Stone Heart House, her home on a remote Scottish island. He welcomes the chance to visit the peaceful island to settle her estate. But shortly after he arrives he realizes it is not as peaceful as he expected it to be. The residents, though overtly pleasant, behave strangely and it is clear that they have something to hide. The story proceeds at a breakneck pace, he arrives, he becomes suspicious, he begins a romantic relationship with the lawyer who is handling the legal work for the estate, he befriends her son who may be on the autism spectrum, he becomes more suspicious, he has a confrontation with the fellow who runs a large oil drilling operation off the coast. This is a dark, engrossing thriller with an unexpected twist at the end. The novel has a sharp focus that kept me interested. It hooked me from the start and I tore through it. Looking for a thriller? I recommend this one.
