Words of the Working Class

From fields to vegetable farms to steel mills, ordinary workers across China document everyday mundanities in extraordinary verse.

Planting Trees is a poem by Li Songshan, a 42 year old shepherd in Lilou Village in Henan province:


An early bout of meningitis left him disabled and Li dropped out of school in fourth grade.
