This is a smart, fast-moving novel. It is narrated by Alana, a worker at a women’s shelter in Toronto who is the single mother of a young daughter with muscular dystrophy. Her mother married into a mega-wealthy family but is now deceased and Alana is estranged from her step-siblings and step-father. She is approached by her two step-brothers who are concerned that their 76 year old father is about to marry a much younger, gold-digging caregiver and they want Alana to help them convince the would-be wife to accept a financial offer to scram. It was a great binge-read with some twists and turns that make it interesting. I tore through it and recommend it as a perfect summer read.
