Eyes In Front While Running
This first novel by Willow Kean is about the pressure on women of a certain age to have children. It addresses fertility, miscarriage, relationship problems and other thirty-something issues. The characters seem genuine and I like that the book is set in St. John’s Newfoundland, a city I am familiar with. I did not feel particularly drawn into Cleo’s story and I’m not sure whether that’s because my childbearing years are such a distant memory now or because Cleo’s attitude toward pregnancy seemed to be “que sera, sera”. It’s hard to root for someone who has no idea what she wants for herself.
